VIRGIL GIBSON Obituary

VIRGIL C. GIBSON Elmdale Dateline Virgil C. Gibson, 93, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at his home in Elmdale. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, April 26, 2008, at 10:00 A.M., at the Elmdale Methodist Church with Pastor Lori Schwilling of Saffordville United Methodist Church. A masonic service by Zeredatha Lodge # 80 A.F. & A.M. and military honors by a U.S. Navy Honor Guard will be held at Elmdale Cemetery in rural Elmdale, Kansas. Virgil Clifford Gibson, the son of R.A. and Ruby R. Gibson, was born August 24, 1914, at Butler, Missouri. He remembered, as a boy, riding in a wagon, leading the milk cow and moving to Greensubrg, KS. to a farm. After his mother died, they moved to Kansas City. Virgil began working at the age of 13. He and Verda C. Pulley met on a blind date and were married June 27, 1937, at Kansas City, Missouri. She died March 27, 2008. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He and Verda bought and ran a grocery store in Hope, KS. for five years. He was a grocery store manager with Milgram’s Grocery Store in Kansas City, Missouri, retiring in 1977. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Shrine, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his daughter, Sherry L. Wells and her husband, Kip, of Elmdale, KS., a brother, Kenneth J. Gibson and his wife, Jackie, of Griffin, Georgia, three grandchildren: Laura Anderson and her husband, Aaron of Overland Park, KS.; Macey Wells of Kiemmline, CO., and Bradley Wells and his wife, Traci of Elwood, NE.; and four great grandchildren: Luke, Kenzie, Morgan, and Madi. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Elvin J. Gibson. Messages to the family may be sent to www.brown-bennett-alexander. com.
