Violet May Cox Mauderly, age 90, passed away Monday, November 16, 2009, at Wamego City Hospital in Wamego, KS. A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, November 19, 2009, at 11:00 A.M., at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls, with The Rev. Bill Seitz, of the First Presbyterian Church of Wamego, officiating. Burial will follow at the Prairie Grove Cemetery in rural Cottonwood Falls, KS. Violet May Cox was born October 5, 1919 at Thayer, KS, the daughter of Solon Gideon Cox and Myrtle Edna Riggs Cox. As a child she lived in several Kansas communities before moving, as a teenager, to the Pleasant Valley community in southwest Chase County, KS. She graduated from Cedar Point High School in 1936. She married Joseph Park Mauderly on March 6, 1938, in Cottonwood Falls, KS, and they resided in the Clements, Strong City and Cottonwood Falls communities. They celebrated 58 years of marriage. He died April 29, 1996. Violet’s last residence was at Vintage Park of Wamego, KS. Violet was a full time mother and homemaker until her children were grown. She then worked in the fabric department at J. C. Penney’s in Emporia, and, later, drove a school bus for Chase County Unified Schools for 6 1/2 years. Violet was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Church Choir, Presbyterian Women, and a preschool Sunday school teacher. She and Park were active in the Mariners group at the church. She was a 4-H leader, a member of the Justamere Study Club, Hillside Country Club, and the Chase County Choral Society. She enjoyed sewing and made many quilts. Survivors include: her three children: Mary Lou (Wm. A.) Martin of N. Little Rock, AR; Joe Lloyd (Cheryl) Mauderly of Albuquerque, NM; and Nancy Ann (Dennis) Rezac of St. Marys, KS; her brother, Loren Cox, Newton, KS; seven grandchildren: Kathryn Gutierrez, Karen Caster, Michael Martin, Laurie Mauderly-Bush, Jameson Davis, Deanne Liska, Cindy Walker, and twelve great-grandchildren: Melissa Martin, Christi Gutierrez, Stephanie Gutierrez, Allyson Martin, Zoie Liska, Audrey Liska, Maxwell Liska, Curtis Segarra, Wolf Davis, Boden Davis, Hannah Walker, and Lydia Walker. In addition to her husband, Violet was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lloyd Cox. Messages may be sent to the family at www.brown-bennett-alexander.com.
