VICTOR L. BASTIN Victor Bastin, 88, of Matfield Green, died Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at Medicalodge in Wichita, KS. A graveside service and interment will be held Friday, November 25, 2011, at the Matfield Green Cemetery in Matfield Green, KS. The son of Roy L. and Victoria Mercer Bastin, Victor L., was born May 15, 1923, in Matfield Green, KS. He attended Matfield Green Schools and graduated from high school in the class of 1941. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Rhineland Battle/Campaign- Central Europe. He received the WWII Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, and three Bronze Service Stars. He and Katherine "Kate" Yeager were married July 27, 1968. She preceded him in death in 1973. He worked at Boeing Aircraft for years and retired after 40 + years. He raised and raced greyhounds. His first "greyhound truck" was a two-door Model A and the dogs rode in the back seat. He liked to hunt coyotes. He and his wife traveled across the United States until she was no longer able to travel. Together, they raised a big garden and enjoyed tending to it. He was kind, but gruff, had a good sense of humor, and liked Coca Cola. He loved to play cards and meet with friends at the Hitchin’ Post in Matfield. He is survived by his brother, Robert M. Bastin of Wichita, KS. a sister, Jean Swanson of Pawhuska, OK, a step-son, David Jeffery of Wathena, KS., two nephews, and three nieces. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Doris Cox and Hope Foose. There will be no formal family visitation.
