VERDA GIBSON Obituary

VERDA C. PULLEY GIBSON Elmdale Dateline Verda C. Gibson died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at her home in Elmdale, KS. She was 93. The daughter of John and S. Irene Pulley, Verda Clemens Pulley was born August 14, 1914, in Bolivar, MO. Her parents preceded her in death. She grew up in Springfield, MO.. moving to Kansas City as a young adult. Verda and Virgil met on a blind date and and they were married on June 27, 1937, in Kansas City, MO. They celebrated 70 years of marriage. Mrs. Gibson worked as a waitress at Putchs 210 on Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, MO. She and her husband owned and operated a grocery store in Hope, KS. from 1948 until 1953. They moved back to Kansas City in 1953 and she was a full-time homemaker and mother. After 49 years in their home in Prairie Village, they moved to Elmdale. She was an accomplished seamtress, artist, cook, and homemaker. She was an elder in Cherokee Christian Church in Prairie Village, KS. and a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star. She attended many painting classes. She is survived by her husband, Virgil of the home in Elmdale; daughter, Sherry L. Wells and her husband, Kip, II, of Elmdale, KS.; a brother, James McKneelen and his wife, Norma, of Belton, MO., three grandchildren: K. Macey Wells, Bradley C. Wells, and Laura I. Anderson; and four great grandchildren: Luke Wells, MacKenzi Anderson, Morgan Anderson, and Madi Anderson. A celebration of life service will be Monday, March 31, 2008, at 10:00 A.M., at the Elmdale Methodist Church with Pastor Lori Schwilling of Saffordville United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Elmdale Cemetery in rural Elmdale, KS. Friends may call at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls Sunday, noon until 6:00 P.M. and at the Elmdale Methodist Church Monday, 9:00 A.M. until service time. Memorial contributions to the Elmdale Methodist Church or to the Elmdale Cemetery Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS. 66845.
