Ted White Obituary

Theodore A. “Ted” White, 96, died March 4, 2023, at his home in Cottonwood Falls. He was born January 6, 1927, in Bushong, Kansas to Floyd E. and Ruth A. (Logue) White. Ted was working at the Z-Bar Ranch when he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 at 17. He served aboard the USS Conflict (PC 1589) Patrol Craft in the pacific theater during WWII and was honorably discharged from service in 1946. Ted was proud to have served his country and was the last surviving member of his crew, the last Chase County WWII and oldest living veteran in Chase County before he passed away.

After the war, he moved to Chase County and operated the Strong City and Cottonwood Falls Locker Plants and was the last man to deliver ice house-to-house in both towns. He then went to work for Jim Bell & Son as a salesman and later managed the store. After 43 years, Ted retired from Jim Bell & Son but the friendships he made throughout the years continued on.

Ted was a Jr. Babe Ruth baseball coach for 15 years, enjoyed golfing, bowling, working in his yard and cutting wood. Throughout the years Ted served on the Cottonwood Falls City Council, Housing Board, and Medical Clinic Board.  He was also a volunteer fireman, cemetery trustee, Cottonwood Falls Day chairman, and local American Legion commander and adjutant for several years. Ted had an ornery personality, a good heart and loved his family deeply.

On March 16, 1948, he married Imogene “Jeannie” Peterson. They shared almost 75 wonderful years of marriage.

Ted is survived by: wife Jeannie of the home; daughter, Susan Wilson and husband Norman of rural Strong City; grandsons, Dow Wilson and wife Erin of Cedar Point, Ty Wilson and wife Rachel of rural Cottonwood Falls; great grandchildren, Whitney, Maize, Ian, Madelyn, Ava, Emmett; and a great great-granddaughter due any day.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Floyd Jr., Don, Larry; and sisters, Dorothy Burnaugh, Carolyn Julian, and Betty Robidou.

Cremation will take place.
