SALLY WHITNEY Obituary

SALLY WHITNEY Strong City Dateline Sally Whitney, 86, formerly of rural Elmdale, died, unexpectedly, Monday, December 3, 2007, at her home in Strong City. A service celebrating her faith, life, and eternal life will be held Thursday, December 6, 2007, 10:00 A.M., at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor David Parks officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Grove Cemetery in rural Cottonwood Falls, KS. The daughter of William and Edith McQuoid Weigand, Edith Althea "Sally" Weigand was born March 29, 1921, in Trojan, South Dakota. Her father was a miner and died when she was 2 and the family moved to Pittsburg, KS. She taught first grade at Cottonwood Falls Grade School where she met "Nip." She and Edward "Nip" Whitney were married June 16, 1946, in Pittsburg, KS. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1986. When her children started to school, she returned to college at Emporia State University and received her bachelor’s degree in education. She taught for several years after that. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Strong City, the Rainbow Garden Club and Chase County University Women. She was active at the Chase County Senior Center and a member of a bridge club. She is survived by her son, Edward B. Whitney of Elmdale, KS. and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters: Sarah Whitney and Phyllis Whitney; three sisters: Frances Weigand, Eleanor Weigand, and Ruth Mawson; and a brother, William Weigand. Friends may call at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home Wednesday, from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. and at the Grace Lutheran Church, from 9:00 until service time.
