RUSSELL BAKER Obituary

RUSSELL EUGENE BAKER Russell Baker, age 70, of Emporia, formerly of Chase County, died Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Stormont Vail Health Care, in Topeka, Kansas. A celebration of life service will be held Monday, December 19, 2011, at 2:00 P.M., at the Bazaar Community Schoolhouse. Rev. Jeremiah Lang will officiate. Cremation will follow the service and his ashes will be scattered at a later date. The son of Arthur E. and Johnas Russell Baker, he was born February 13, 1941, at Matfield Green, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Marines. He and Nell Clark were married on February 16, 1969 in Ulysses, KS. She preceded him in death. He was bull hauler truck driver and retired in 2010. He was a member of the VFW in Emporia and enjoyed the Flint Hills Rodeo. He is survived by a son, Tom Varelman of Brush, CO.; three daughters: Karen Baker and Sue Parker of Emporia, KS., and Nancy Yoho of Bartlesville, OK.; two sisters: Irene Swift of Cottonwood Falls, KS. and Mary Alice Harrison of Lousiana; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a son, Dennis Varelman. The family will meet friends Sunday, from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M., at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home. Friends may call Sunday, from 1:00 until 6:00 P.M., at the funeral home. Friends may call Monday, after 10:00A.M. until service time at the Bazaar Schoolhouse.
