ROGER KOHLS Obituary

ROGER WILLIS KOHLS Roger W. Kohls, age 68, of rural Chase County, died Monday, February 13, 2012, in the same home in which he was born. There will be no formal service. A visitation, to share memories and celebrate his life with his family, will be held Friday, February 17, 2012, from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M., at Grace Lutheran Church in Strong City, KS. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in Elk Union Cemetery. At his request, he has been cremated. The son of Alfred and Dorothy Lucas Kohls, Roger Willis was born July 29, 1943, at the family home, built by his grandfather, near Elk, in rural Chase County. He attended grade school in the Elk Union Schoolhouse. He graduated from Chase County High School in the Class of 1961. He served in the Seabees division of the U.S. Navy. He and Mary Ann Brown were married June 29, 1964, at Grace Lutheran Church in Strong City, KS. He was a Lutheran. He was a farmer/stockman. He was always ready to help others, sometimes before he got his work done. He loved his grandchildren and was proud to be called "Poppa." He is survived by his wife, of the home; his son, Roger W. Kohls, Jr., of Great Bend, KS.; his daughter, Karoly K. Bruch, of Emporia, KS.; his mother, Dorothy Kohls, of Salina, KS.; his brother, Alfred W. Kohls, of Salina, KS.; his two sisters: Sonja Maddox of Lincolnville, KS. and Barbara Reyer of Rose Hill, KS.; and two grandchildren: Darrian M. Bruch and Jayce T. Kohls. He was preceded in death by his father. Friends may call at the funeral home, Thursday, from 10:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M., to sign the register book. Memorial contributions to a fund for his grandchildren’s education may be sent in care of Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS. 66845.
