NEVA MYRUL SCOTT MCCABE
Cottonwood Falls Dateline Neva McCabe, age 92, died, after a short illness, Friday, July 23, 2010, at the Golden Living Center of Chase County in Cottonwood Falls, KS. Cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial service and inurnment will be held at a later date when her extended family can gather together. The daughter of Albert Paul and Myrtle Mary Cummings Scott, Neva was born April 22, 1918, in Thurman, KS. She lived her early life and attended school in Thurman Community, KS. Her family later moved to the Bazaar Community. She graduated from Chase County Community High School in 1937. Neva became the wife of John R. McCabe of Elmdale, KS. They were married September 4, 1941, at Pope County, Ark. They lived in Cottonwood Falls and Topeka, returning to Cottonwood Falls after his retirement. He preceded her in death November 7, 1995. Neva worked as an assistant in grocery store meat-markets for a time, at the local Swope Egg Factory, and in her home as a homemaker. In her later years (12 1/2 yrs.), she was a fixture on Broadway Street in Cottonwood Falls working as the presiding cashier at the Emma Chase Café. While living in Topeka, she was a devoted Girl Scout Leader. Since retiring to Chase County, she was a member of the Twin Cities Lions Club, the Rainbow Garden Club, the Bazaar United Methodist Church, and the Bazaar Ladies Aid. She and Johnnie had no children of their own. Survivors include 16 nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. They babysat several now-fully-grown folks through the years and thought of them as their own children. Memorial contributions may be made to the Courthouse Clock Fund, the Bazaar United Methodist Church, or Hospice Care of Kansas and may be sent in care of Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS. 66845.
