MELVIN "MEL" L. KABLER Strong City Dateline Melvin "Mel" Kabler, age 76, died Saturday, December 13, 2008, at his home in Strong City. A celebration of life gathering will be held Sunday, December 21, 2008, at 2:00 P.M., at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls with a grandson, Brandon Findley officiating. He has been cremated and his cremains will be scattered at a later date. The son of Clarence and Treasure Ellis Kabler, Melvin Lee Kabler was born January 5, 1932, in Wichita, KS. He and D. Christine DeWeese were married May 12, 1972, in Salina, KS. He was a member of, and an evangelist, in the Church of Christ. As a carpenter, he built homes and helped build several Church of Christ churches, including one in Salina. He started working as an employee of a Phillips 66 station. He was an Assistant Superintendent at a grain elevator (Pillsbury), a Superintendent of a grain elevator in Greenville, Mississippi; the Director of Operations at Colorado AeroTech in Bloomfield, CO.; the Executive Director of Texas AeroTech in Dallas, Texas; and a Professor of Aeronautics at KSU-Salina. He served in the U.S. Marines Reserve. He is survived by his wife, Christine, of the home; one son, Bryan Douglas Kabler of Valentine, NE.; two daughters: Jacqueline Sue Kendall of Marion, KS. and Diana Jo Ware of Wichita; two brothers: David Alan Kiser of Augusta, KS. and Gary Suffron of Cottonwood Falls; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence and his mother, Treasure Ellis Kabler Kiser; a brother, Cecil Merle Kiser, Jr., and a step-father, Cecil Merle Kiser, Sr. Memorial contributions to the Beggs Church of Christ in Beggs, OK. or Hand in Hand Hospice may be sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS. 66845.
