MELIZENT "MEZ" LEE GREENE DAVIS Melizent Davis, age 90, of Elmdale, died Thursday, January 6, 2011, at the Golden Living Center of Chase County in Cottonwood Falls, KS. A celebration of life memorial service will be held Saturday, January 15, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. at the Elmdale United Methodist Church in Elmdale, KS. Pastor Warren Olson will officiate at the service. A inurnment will be held at a later time. Mrs. Davis has been cremated. The daughter of Helen Greene Brown, Melizent Lee was born May 22, 1920, in Strong City, KS. She attended Chase County schools and graduated from Strong City High School. She and Charles Henry Davis, Jr. were married December 11, 1939, at the Chase County Courthouse in Cottonwood Falls. He preceded her in death July 14, 1976. She was a homemaker and worked as a substitute cook for Chase County Unified School District #284, cooked at Camp Wood for years and enjoyed doing volunteer work. She was a member of the Elmdale United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Alpha Study Club. She was a past member of a Home Extension Unit. She is survived by two sons: Fred E. Davis and his wife, Janet, of Topeka, KS. and Charles Davis and his wife, Karen, of Cottonwood Falls, KS.; seven grandchildren: Christy Layne of Topeka, Kim Holder of Osage City, Michael Davis of Topeka, David Davis of Elmdale, Diane Davis of Marion, Brian Davis of Fort Carson, CO., and Paul Davis of Emporia; nine great grandchildren: Travis and Black Layne, Samantha, Jessica, and Alyssa Davis, J.D. Baker, Justine, Westin, and Logan Davis; and two step-great grandchildren Taylor Blount and Schon Blount; and a sister-in-law, Dreda Greene of Hutchinson, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and three sisters. The family will meet friends Saturday, from 9:00 until service time at the Elmdale United Methodist Church.
