MARY ALICE MACKEY SHOWALTER Strong City, Kansas Mary A. Showalter, 79, died Sunday, November 9, 2008, at her home in Strong City, KS. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at 2:00 P.M., at the Flint Hills Community Church in Cottonwood Falls, KS., with Pastor David Gass officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Grove Cemetery in rural Cottonwood Falls. The daughter of Robert E. and Edith L. Allen Mackey, Mary Alice was born August 1, 1929, in Madison, KS. She graduated from Madison High School. She and Lawrence "Larry" Showalter were married July 1, 1951, in Hutchinson, KS. He died October 5, 2000. She was a mother, homemaker, and an artist. She enjoyed helping ours and caring for her flowers. She spent many hours planting and caring for a flower bed in the Strong City Park near her home. She was a member of Cedar Point Community Church in Cedar Point. She is survived by her son, Tom Showalter of Strong City, KS.; a daughter, Patti Craghead of Jetmore, KS.; three brothers: Albert Mackey of Newton, Kenneth Mackey of Cottonwood Falls, and Lee Mackey of Dodge City; a sister, Carol Ropfogel of Naples, FL.; five grandchildren: Darin Eubanks, Faith Brokar, Joy Eubanks, Joshua Showalter, and Jennifer Showalter; and six great grandchildren: Zoe, Riley, Ashten, London, Trevor, and Carson. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Joni Showalter; a son, Greg Showalter; and two sisters: Barbara Crackel and Shirley Mackey. The family will meet friends Tuesday, from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M., at the Flint Hills Community Church. Friends may call Tuesday, noon until 4:00 P.M., at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home and Wednesday, 9:00 A.M. until service time at the Flint Hills Community Church.
