MARY A. SAMS SAWYER PIPER Mary Piper, age 86, of Cottonwood Falls, KS., died Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Golden Living Center of Chase County, in Cottonwood Falls. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at 2:00 P.M., at the Greenwood Cemetery in Council Grove, KS. The Rev. Young-Gil Bahng, of the Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Church will officiate. The daughter of Dewuain and Pearl Mae Mcdiffett Sams, Mary was born August 15, 1925, at Parkerville, KS. She married Roy Sawyer on January 30, 1941, in Cottonwood Falls. He preceded her in death in 1975. She married Milford Piper and he preceded her in death in 1989. She was a certified nurse’s aide and worked at Marion Manor for 12+ years. She, also, ran a restaurant and was a co-owner of a bar in Marion. She was a Baptist. She was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion in Marion. She was an avid dancer and could do almost anything she wanted to do. She is survived by a son, Robert D. Sawyer of Marion; a daughter, Sandra "Sandy" Miller Long of Cottonwood Falls, KS.; a step-son, William G. Sawyer of Prairie Village,KS.; a step-daughter, Carolyn Phillips of Olden, KS.; 21 grandchildren; and 20+ great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Randy G. Sawyer;a step-son, Clarence Sawyer, brother, Dewuain Sams; a sister, Valda Neumeyer; four grandchildren: Troy Sawyer, Chelsea Spicer, Brian Miller and Jaden Sawyer. There will be no formal family visitation. Friends may call Monday, from noon until 6:00 P.M., and Tuesday, from 9:00 until noon, at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home.
