MARVIN SCHWILLING Obituary

MARVIN D. SCHWILLING Emporia Dateline Marvin D. Schwilling, age 83, of Emporia, Kansas, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia, Kansas. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at 10:00 A.M., at Prairie Grove Cemetery in rural Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, with Pastor Lee Hoskins officiating. Military Honors by American Legion Bell-McColm Post No. 5 of Emporia and a United States Marine Corps. detail. The son of Joseph V. and Esther Twining Schwilling, Marvin Dale Schwilling was born November 18, 1924, in Clements, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. in the Pacific during World War II. He and Floy Lynn were married September 17, 1950, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Fort Collins, Colorado. He graduated from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, in December, 1950, with a degree in Zoology. He worked for the Kansas Wildlife & Parks for 37 years. He was the Wildlife Project Leader at Cheyenne Bottoms, Water Fowl Management Area 1962-1976, and retired in 1990 as Nongame Biologist. He attended First Congregational Church in Emporia. He was a Lifetime Member of Kansas Ornithological Society and Kansas Academy of Science. He was a member of American Legion Post 5 in Emporia. He was active in Kanza Audubon Society, Wildlife Society, Kansas Chapter of Wildlife Society and Emporia Gardeners of Kansas. He served as Adjunct Professor in the Division of Biological Sciences at Emporia State University and author and co-authored many publications. He is survived by his wife, Floy of the home; two sons: Jerry Schwilling of Cottonwood Falls, KS. and Gary Schwilling of Houston, TX.; two daughters: Karen Searle of Great Bend, KS. and Cherylen Fletcher of Emporia, KS.; four brothers: Russell Schwilling of Osage Beach, MO., Lyle Schwilling of Akron, OH., Harry Schwilling of Wichita, KS., and Wayne Schwilling of Strong City, KS.; two sisters: Bernice Schwilling Weamer of Ottawa, KS. and Shirley Schwilling Cowdrey of Olathe, KS., seven grandchildren: Andy Schwilling, Anja Ford, Tyler and Adam Searle, Kelsey Schwilling, Shanon Fletcher, Charles Schwilling. and six great grandchildren: Amber Schwilling, Allison Schwilling, Isaac Schwilling, Taylor Schwilling, Elliott Ford, and Kellen Searle. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Joseph Schwilling and Howard Schwilling, and sisters: Dorothy Schwilling Wagner, Janette Schwilling Duke, and Mary Louise Schwilling Shehan.
