Loran Houk, age 73, of Strong City, died suddenly Wednesday, March 09, 2011, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia, Kansas. There will be no formal service. Cremation has taken place. The son of Loran Michael and Margaret Hill Houk, he was born December 28, 1937, in Emporia, Kansas. He graduated from Chase County High School. He had worked as a foreman for a mobile home manufacturing company until he was injured. He loved to fish and, not only bought fishing poles for his children and his grandchildren, but taught them how to fish and how to love fishing. He is survived by two sons: Richard B. Houk of Strong City, KS. and Patrick Houk of El Dorado, KS.; two daughters: Carolyn Christine Ellis of Pittsburg, KS. and Cheryl Ann Brown of Strong City; two sisters: Shirley Wills of Wichita, KS. and Suzy Weidenbener of Belle Plain, KS.; nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
