June C. Talkington, 79, died Sunday, June 10, 2007, at his home in Matfield Green. A celebration of life service will be conducted on Thursday, 2:00 P.M., at the Flint Hills Community Church, Cottonwood Falls, KS. with Pastor Jim Bartsch and The Rev. John Ratzlaff officiating. Interment will follow in the Matfield Green Cemetery with military honors by the VFW Post 1980 and the American Legion Post 5 honor guard. John Calvin Talkington was born January 10, 1928, in Matfield Green, KS. to Ralph Kenneth and Margaret Mockry Talkington. He married Phyllis Mae Kewley February 27, 1966, at the Grace Methodist Church in Emporia. He was a farmer/rancher in Chase County all of his life. He was a member of the Flint Hills Community Church in Cottonwood Falls. He helped with the livestock show during the Chase County Fair and served on 4-H committees. He belonged to the Pork Producers and served on the Water Shed Board. He was an U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of the home; son, William "Bill" D. Talkington; two daughters: Mary Anne Quay and Shelley Chiasson, two brothers: Donald and Eugene Talkington, all of Matfield Green, 11 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Harold, Charles, Wilbur, and Merton Talkington. Friends may call at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. and at the Flint Hills Community Church after 5:00 P.M. The family will greet friends from 6:30 until 7:30 P.M. at the church. Friends may call at the church Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until service time.
