James went home to glory on August 18, 2024.

James was born January 27, 1935, to Thomas Gerald and Helen Frances (Murray) Redick at the family home in Emporia.

James married Norma Jeanne Brown on September 14, 1958. This union was blessed with three sons, Jerry Lynn, Jeffery Allen, and Jay Anthony and a nephew, Theodore, they raised as their own. They resided in Cottonwood Falls.

James was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 5 brothers, Robert G., Ernest E., Alvin G., Thomas L.,

Kenneth Redick; sisters, Irene Redick-Dorsey, Ruth Redick-Johnson, Betty Redick-Richardson and 3 sons, Jerry, Jeffery and Jay Redick.

He is survived by: son, Theodore Redick; 3 grandchildren, Crystal Dawn, Damien Alexander, Gabriel Redick; 10 great grandchildren, Taliyah Logsdon, Tiauna Rowley, Talecia Cintron, Tamisha Langley, Terrence Langley, Alexander Redick, Alyssa Redick, Jayden Hernandez, Adrian Redick, Anthony Redick; great great-grandchildren, Bradley Logsdon, Calliope Logsdon, Thomas Schneider, Carter Schneider, Benjamin Langley Wolfe, Alani Cintron-Flores, Josephine Langley Wolfe, and numerous nieces and nephews.

James attended Century and Mary Herbert Elementary schools. He graduated from Emporia High School in 1953. He attended college of Emporia for 1 year before volunteering for the army draft. He completed 2 years of honorable service including 1 year in Korea. He received the Korean Defense Service Medal, National Defense Service, and Good Conduct Medal. Other plaques he received were the Liberty Bell, Honorable Discharge, US Army Certificate of Appreciation, Flint Hills Vietnam Vets, Silver Haired, Legislature, IBP certificate of appreciation, and the learning connection treasured volunteer. James had life time memberships in the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In his life James worked for Carthage Construction from 1958-1960. From 1960-1972, James was employed by Aeroglide Corp. in Emporia as a supervisor. Aeroglide fabricated grain driers and grain handling equipment. James a supervisor in the maintenance department of IBP charged with the fabrication of meat handling equipment and construction from 1972-1984 when he was forced to retire because of health reasons. James took classes through his places of employment, including Emporia State University, Flint hills Technical College and Wichita State University.

Upon his retirement, he became very involved in his community and surrounding areas. Some of his accomplishments over the years were 50 years of membership at St. James Baptist Church, 10 years as the commander of Emporia African American Color Guard, member of the board of the learning connection, board member of Camp Alexander, member and past president of Twin Cities Lions Club, member of committee to bring the Vietnam Traveling Wall to Emporia, representative to the Silver Haired Legislature for 8 years, commander of the Chase County All Veterans color guard, founding member of the Chase County All Veterans memorial committee and active member of Grace United Methodist Church.

His love for children is reflected in the children’s playground bearing his name which he was so proud to be a part of. His other love project was the Chase County All Veteran Memorial Park. James served his God, his family, and his country diligently and proudly throughout his life.

James was more than willing to help any way he could. James was a man that could never turn down someone in need of a helping hand.

James will be greatly missed.

Celebration of life service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Chase County All Veteran Memorial Park in Swope Park, Cottonwood Falls. Family will greet friends before and after the service.
