CHESTER "CHET" M. RHODES, JR. Americus Dateline Chester "Chet" Rhodes, 68, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008. at Morris County Hospital in Council Grove, Kansas. A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at 2:00 P.M., at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home. Interment will be in Matfield Green Cemetery in Matfield Green, Kansas. The son of Chester M. and Vernie E. McDiffitt Rhodes, Chester Morrill Rhodes, Jr. was born September 14, 1939, in Council Grove, Kansas. He served in the United States Air Force as a hydraulic specialist. He and Jolene Conley were married January 21, 1967, at the Chase County Courthouse in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. They farmed for many years in the Americus area. Both of them were self employed truck drivers for over 20 years. He was a member of the Christian Church of Christ in Council Grove. He is survived by his wife, Jolene, of the home; a son, John R. Rhodes of Americus, KS.; three daughters: Judith Diane Rhodes of Arizona, Twila Jo Engle of Emporia, KS., and Donna Jolinn Wilson of Cottonwood Falls, KS.; one brother, Charles Robert Rhodes of Amarillo, TX.; two sisters: June Rochat of Emporia, KS. and Margaret Nielsen of Americus, KS.; and seven grandchildren: Nicole, Fred, & Michael Baughn, Heather & Courtney Engle, and Chelsea & Jacob Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Juanita, and their son, Bobby. Messages for the family may be left at www.brown-bennett-alexander.com.
