J.R. FOSDICK Obituary

J.R. "BILL" FOSDICK J.R. "Bill" Fosdick, age 85, of Cottonwood Falls, formerly of Elkhart, died Thursday, September 15, 2011, at Holiday Resort in Emporia, Kansas. A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, September 18, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. at the First Christian Church in Emporia, KS. The Rev. Bob Colerick will officiate at the service. Burial will be Monday, September 19, 2011, at 2:00 P.M.,. at the Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart, Kansas. The son of Ira and Alda Parnell Fosdick, J.R. was born September 30, 1925, in Hominy, OK. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a motor machinist’s mate third class and was awarded the Point System Victory Medal, the American Area Ribbon and the Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon. He married Betty Louise Matal and she died in 1982. He married Barbara Jean Thornton on June 1, 1985, in Liberal, Kansas. She survives. He worked as plant superintendent at Anadarko Petroleum at Elkhart and Liberal for 24 ½ years before retirement. He continued working, after he moved to Cottonwood Falls, as a custodian at the Flint Hills Vo-Tech School and the First Christian Church in Emporia. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the VFW in Emporia. He is survived by three sons: J.R. Fosdick, Jr. of Spring, TX., Ira Lee Fosdick of Denver, CO., and Steven Bruce Fosdick of Liberal, KS.; two daughters: Evelyn Louise Lucas of Border, TX. and Pamela Marie Toney of Turpin, OK.; a step-son, Robert "Bob" Burright of Strong City; a step-daughter, Patti Boyer of Geneseo, IL.; two sisters: Mary Walters of Chase, KS. and Esther Thul of Ellinwood, KS.; and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John "Bus" Fosdick and two sisters: Lorene Johnson and Alta Mae "Toots" Snow. There will be no formal family visitation. Friends may come by the funeral home Saturday, from 10:00 until 4:00 P.M.
