JOHNNY FLY Obituary

JOHNNY T. FLY Johnny Fly, age 82, formerly of Cottonwood Falls, died Saturday, September 10, 2011, in Council Grove, Kansas. A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, at 10:00 A.M., at the Cottonwood Falls Country Club south of Cottonwood Falls. Pastor Rob Clausen will officiate. Military Honors will be presented by a U.S. Army Fort Riley Honor Detail. Johnny has been cremated. Private inurnment will be held after the service. The son of Hubert B. and Karon E.Tansil Fly, Johnny was born September 9, 1929, in Memphis, TN. He served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War, as a Medic, and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, and a Combat Medical Badge. He married Mary Buffum on March 17, 1962, in El Dorado, Kansas. She preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2002. He worked as a custodian/maintenance man for USD #284, until his retirement in 2001. He was a member of the Cottonwood Falls Country Club. He enjoyed golf and played on "mens’ night" weekly and anytime he had a chance. He enjoyed being outside. He is survived by two sons: Terry A. Fly of Gallatin, TN. and Kasey A. Fly of Lexington, Kentucky; two daughters: Robin A. Ybarra of Wichita, KS. and Michele Zimmer of Junction City, KS.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. The family will meet friends Tuesday, from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M., at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home. Friends may call Tuesday, 2:00 until 7:30, at the funeral home.
