RUSSELL JACKSON Russell Jackson, age 89, formerly of Strong City, died Friday, February 25, 2011, in Overland Park, Kansas. A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at 10:00 A.M., at the Strong City United Methodist Church in Strong City. Pastor Warren Olson will officiate at the service. Burial will follow in Prairie Grove Cemetery west of Cottonwood Falls. A Fort Riley funeral detail will present military honors. Cremation has taken place. The son of Roy and Alice Steadman Jackson. John Russell was born September 23, 1921, in Cottonwood Falls. He graduated from Chase County schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He and Evelyn Smith were married September 25, 1946, in Strong City. She preceded him in death March 20, 2009. He worked as a signal maintainer with Santa Fe Railroad and retired after 44 years. He was a member of the Strong City United Methodist Church, the VFW and American Legion in Chase County, Zeredatha Masonic Lodge, and O.E.S. Falls chapter #25. He is survived by a son, Larry Jackson of Kansas City, MO.; two daughters: Joyce McCabe of Corinth, TX, and Sallie McNee of Stilwell, KS.; a sister, Irene Schwilling of Sedona, AZ.; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leroy Jackson. The family will meet friends Monday, 6:30 until 8:00 at the Strong City United Methodist Church. Friends may call Monday, 9:00 until 5:00 at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home.
