JANICE "JAN" KAY GIGER POTTER

Auburn Dateline Janice "Jan" Kay Potter, age 60, formerly of Cottonwood Falls, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010, at her home in Auburn, Kansas, after a two year battle with ovarian cancer. A celebration of life service will be held Monday, February 22, at 2:00 P.M. at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home with The Rev. Pat Ireland officiating. Jan will be cremated following the service with inurnment at a later date. The daughter of Robert M. and Nora C. Counsellor Giger, Janice Kay Giger, was born December 15, 1949, in Emporia, Kansas. She grew up in the Chase County area, graduating from Chase County High School on May 22, 1967. She and Daniel L. Potter were married April 22, 1988, in Cottonwood Falls. Jan was a loving, caring, and personable person. She worked most of her adult life in Topeka. She worked as the Office Manager for Governor Joan Finney from 1991 until 1993, when she became the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of Administration. In 1994, she moved to the Kansas Corporation Commission where she became the Administrative Assistant to the Chair of the Commission. She continued in that role for 15 years until her health forced her to retire. She is survived by her husband, Dan, of the home; a sister-in-law, Janice Potter Davisson and brother-in-law, Eldon, of Sacramento, CA.; brother-in-law, Leslie G. Potter and sister-in-law, Linda, of Emporia, KS.; mother-in-law, Ginette A. Potter of Mission, TX.; two step-children: Shannon L. Potter of Cottonwood Falls, KS. and Leona L. Potter Zieammermann of Emporia, KS.; and five step-grandchildren: Briana Lane, Danni Kay Clay, Leslie Cheyenne Potter, Jadyn and Davion Zieammermann. She was preceded in death by her father in 1971 and her mother in 2007. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her, including her beloved cats. The family will meet friends Sunday from 4:00 until 5:30 P.M., at the funeral home. Friends may call Sunday from noon until 6:00 P.M. and Monday from 9:00 A.M. until service time. Memorials to the H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare Fund, Inc. and to the Cat Association of Topeka, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS. 66845.
