Helen E. Holmquist, 97, formerly of Hutchinson, Kansas, died Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at the Golden Living Center of Chase County in Cottonwood Falls. A graveside service will be held Monday, October 8, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. at the Bazaar Cemetery with officiant, Pastor Jim Bartsch of the Flint Hills Community Church. Helen Estella Bystrom was born October 17, 1909, at Oberlin, Kansas, to Nels and Anna Westfall Bystrom. She married Alfred Arnold "Swede" Holmquist on April 14, 1934, at Oberlin, Kansas. They lived in Norton from 1948 until 1956 where she was a homemaker and Alfred worked for Kansas Department of Transportation, Division 3, as an engineer. During this time, she was active in the church and in their family’s life. They, also, lived in Hutchinson, where he died February 14, 1979. She joined the Methodist Church when she was 15 years old and was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. She is survived by two daughters: Carole Ann Paramore of Shawnee, Kansas and Mary Lea Stout of Bazaar, Kansas; a sister, Martha Christine Worley of Idaho Falls, Idaho; four grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers: Wilber Bystrom and Richard Bystrom.
