GEORGIA M. BROWN HAILEY Georgia Hailey, age 68, of Elmdale, Kansas, died Monday, December 26, 2011, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia. A rosary will be held and conducted by Marvin Brown on Thursday, December 29, at 6:30 P.M., at St. Anthony Church in Strong City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 30, 2011, at 2:00 P.M., at St. Anthony Church. Father Harold Schneider will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmdale Cemetery. The daughter of George M. and Mary Catherine Schneider Brown, Georgia Marie was born December 28, 1942, in Emporia, Kansas. She married Alvin Hailey on November 21, 1964, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe, Kansas. She worked as a secretary at Peoples Exchange Bank in Elmdale for 14 years. For 17 years, she and Alvin cared for 37 foster children, and she was the Elmdale Postmaster for 12 years. She worked with the Healthy Start Program through the Chase County Health Department. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar Society, sponsored CYO, and taught catechism. She had the city books for Elmdale Cemetery and for Elk Cemetery. She was active in the Hymer Women’s Group who planned various celebrations for the Hymer community. She worked with 4-H and was a "crafter" who made rosaries, sewed, and helped out whenever there was a need. She was a ticket seller at the Flint Hills Rodeo for over 30 years. She and Alvin attended their grandchildren’s activities as often as possible. She is survived by her husband, Alvin, of the home; one son, Jeff Hailey and his wife, Kim, of South Sioux City, NE.; one daughter, Tonia Gonzales and her husband, Robert, of Wichita, KS.; four brothers: Marvin Brown of Emporia, KS., David Brown of Quinlin, TX., Virgil Brown of Olpe, KS., and Mike Brown of Redmond, WA.; five grandchildren: Cathryne and Stefanie Gonzales, Jordan Green, Dallas Gonzales, and Cody Ellis; one great granddaughter, Kendylle Green. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, George Brown. The family will meet friends, following the Rosary, at St. Anthony’s Hall until 8:00 P.M. Friends may call at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home Thursday, from 9:00 until 4:30 P.M. and at St. Anthony Church from 5:00 until 6:30 and following the rosary until 8:00.
