GAYLAND PARK Obituary

GAYLAND WAYNE PARK Gayland "Gay" Wayne Park, age 76, of Cottonwood Falls, died Saturday, May 7, 2011, as the result of a vehicle/train accident, near Elmdale, KS. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, May 12, 2011, at 11:00 A.M., at the First Presbyterian Church (USA) in Cottonwood Falls. The service will be conducted by The Rev. Pat Ireland. There will be a private family interment in Clements Cemetery, Clements, KS. The son of Wayne Way and Hazel Broiles Park, he was born September 24, 1934, in his family’s log cabin home in Elmdale, KS. He attended Elmdale Grade School and graduated from Clements High School in 1952. He married Minnie Beth Dawson on June 17, 1956, in the Clements Presbyterian Church. He worked as a construction inspector for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 40 years and retired in 1994. He then worked for Cook, Flatt, & Strobel Engineers in Topeka for 16 years. He was reared on the family farm and continued to farm throughout his life. He was a member of the Zeredatha #60 A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge in Chase County. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He is survived by his wife, Minnie Beth, of the home; a daughter, Tonya Kennedy and a granddaughter, Amanda Kennedy, of Overland Park, KS.; three sisters: Ginger Slabaugh of Altamont, Edna Ingalls of Strong City, and Esta Meade of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, David Kennedy. There will be no formal visitation and the casket will remain closed. Friends may call, to sign the register book, Tuesday and Wednesday from noon until 6:00 P.M. at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home. Memorial contributions to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Emporia Rescue Mission/Abundant Harvest, or the First Presbyterian Church (USA) in Cottonwood Falls may be sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS. 66845.
