FERNE ROSALIE HINES Ferne R. Hines, age 88, of Huntington Beach, California, died February 23, 2012, at Victoria Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Costa Mesa, California. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012, at 11:00 A.M., in the Elmdale Cemetery Chapel in Elmdale, Kansas, with inurnment to follow. The Rev. Pat Ireland, First Presbyterian Church (USA) of Cottonwood Falls will officiate. The daughter of Joel and Blanche Spiller, Ferne Rosalie was born May 5, 1923, on a farm near Clements, Kansas. She grew up on a farm near Frankfort, Kansas, and attended Frankfort High School. She married George W. Plumb on Valentine’s Day in 1947. After George died in 1952, she moved to Abilene, Kansas, and worked as an administrative assistant at the United Trust Company. She married Paul N. Hines in 1960, and moved to Marysville, Kansas. In 1977, she moved to Huntington Beach, California. Ferne spent a good portion of her life caring for others. She provided in-home daycare for years and raised a special needs daughter. Ferne enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and canning, sewing, camping, and the warm weather of sunny California. She was a big California Angels and K-State sports fan. Ferne is survived by her three daughters: Lynn Williams of Santa Ana, California, Pam Plumb of Westminster, California, and Paula Budris of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; a son, Tim Plumb of Lawrence, Kansas; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both husbands and a daughter, Angela Hines. Memorial contributions may be made in the name of the Ferne R.
