Elizabeth "Betty" J. (Osborn) Pinkston Betty Pinkston of rural Bazaar passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Chase County Care & Rehabilitation Center in Cottonwood Falls. She was 99 years old. Elizabeth Jane was born April 6, 1919 in Cottonwood Falls to Harvey and Ethel Lenora (Myers) Osborn. She graduated from Chase County Community High School in 1937. She and Phill Pinkston were married November 4, 1945 in Topeka, KS. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1996. They were members of the Church of Christ Church. Phill and Betty lived most of their married life ranching and working cattle on "Rock Creek" west of Bazaar. She was active in their cattle business and was the bookkeeper for the Pinkston boys’s cattle businesses. Betty loved nature especially animals, birds and flowers. She played pitch with the group at the Bazaar schoolhouse and played bridge. Betty was a good cook and was famous for her vinegar pie and deviled eggs. She was a volunteer at the senior center for many years. Betty was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sisters: Helen Osborn, Juanita Miser, and Bonnie Short; and two brothers: Jack Osborn and Roy Osborn. She is survived by nieces and nephews: Tim Miser (Carole) of Bazaar, Larry Pinkston and Beverly Pinkston of Bazaar; Kathleen Brown (Dick) of Eudora; Jane Allen (Coy) of Wichita; Beverly Michalak of Playa Vista, CA; and her caretakers, David and Phyllis Hugg. There will be no formal visitation. A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, October 24, at 2:00 pm at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. Burial will follow in Bazaar Cemetery. Betty requested that contributions be made to the Emporia Animal Shelter and sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 220, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
