EVAN E. KOGER Evan E. Koger, age 91, died Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia, KS. A private family interment was held at Prairie Grove Cemetery, Cottonwood Falls, KS. A celebration of life service will be held Monday, December 27, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. at Camp Wood, Elmdale, KS. The Rev. Pat Ireland will officiate. The son of Ode B. and Florence Robbins Koger, Edward Evan was born December 14, 1918, at Norwich, KS. He graduated from Sewickley Academy in Sewickley, PA. in 1935, and from Yale University with Bachelor’s degree in English Literature in 1939. He entered the U.S. Army in Kiowa County, on June 10, 1943, and served as an Office Assistant Secretary of the War Department in the Strategic Service Unit from 1941 until his Honorable Discharge, at Washington, D.C., in 1946. During his service he served in the China Offensive from Dec. 19, 1944 until Oct. 1, 1945 and Defensive from Jan. 25, 1945, until Oct. 22, 1945. He and Betty Beedle were married September 21, 1952, in Bazaar, KS. She died March 14, 1971. He was a retired cattle rancher. He is survived by one son, Edward R. Koger of Wilmore,KS.; four daughters: Vicky Dawson of Cottonwood Falls, KS., Jane Koger of Matfield Green, KS., Susan Koger of Wilmore, KS.; and Kay Lauer of Strong City, KS.; a brother, William Koger of Denver, CO.; eight grandchildren: ; and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Koger, and a great granddaughter, Nealy Duerksen.
