ESTHER LEE BALLEW FINUF

Emporia Dateline Esther L. Finuf, 87, formerly of Strong City, died Monday, July 19, 2010, at Holiday Resort in Emporia, KS. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, July 23, 2010, at 11:00 A.M., at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral in Cottonwood Falls, KS. Rev. David Hurlocker will officiate. There will be an Order of the Eastern Star service. Burial will follow in Strong City Cemetery in Strong City, KS. Esther Lee Ballew, the daughter of Thomas E. and Anna Bell Leaphule Ballew, was born August 21, 1922, in Strong City, KS. She graduated from Elmdale High School with the class of 1940. She then attended the Hutchinson Business College in Hutchinson, KS. She and William "Boyd" Finuf were married September 27, 1943, in Strong City, KS. He died May 28, 2005. She was a cook for the Chase County U.S.D. #284 School District at the Strong City location. She retired after 22 years. She was, also, a homemaker in her own home. She was a member of the Strong City United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter #25 in Cottonwood Falls. She is survived by one son, Robert F. Finuf of Emporia, KS.; two daughters: Patricia L. Schalla and Linda J. Kieffaber of Emporia, KS; and five grandchildren: Tara Jo Stewart of Junction City, KS., Kara S. Finuf of Las Vegas, Nevada, Nathaniel J. Ravon of West Virginia, Kenneth T. Atkins of Savanna, IL, and Kyle W. Atkins of Emporia, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, William T. Finuf; a brother, Elvin M. Ballew; and two sisters: Cecil Reehling and Gladys Bourland. The family will meet friends Thursday, 6:00 until 7:30 P.M., at the funeral home. Friends may call Thursday, 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M., and Friday, 9:00 A.M. until service time.
