ELMORE G. STOUT Bazaar Dateline Elmore G. Stout, age 93, of Bazaar, died Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Cottonwood Falls, KS. A celebration of life service will be held Monday, April 27, 2009, at 2:00 P.M., at the First Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. in Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. Pat Ireland will officiate. Entombment will be at the Bazaar Cemetery, Bazaar, KS. with a time to share memories following in the Bazaar Community Building. Elmore has been a life-long resident of Chase County. The son of Jeptha Elmore and Carrie Hansen Stout, Elmore was born June 20, 1915, at Strong City, KS. He graduated from Chase County schools. He attended and graduated, with Phi Kappa Phi academic honors, from Kansas State College in 1938, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Husbandry. He was on the Kansas State Livestock Judging Team as a Junior, and again as a Senior when the team won the 2nd leg of the Bronze Bull Trophy in Chicago. He was in ROTC at Kansas State. Following graduation, he came to the ranch, near Bazaar, on a stock-share lease. At that time, Doris’s father (Dr. A.E. Titus) owned the ranch, thus the "Titus" which remains in the ranch name. He and Doris Lee Titus were married September 13, 1938, in Cottonwood Falls. She died June 29, 2001. For more than 70 years on the TS Ranch, Elmore has maintained quality Hereford breeding and made improvements over these years. A few years later, he replaced Dr. Titus’s Morgan horses with Registered Quarter horses. This year was Elmore’s 45th Annual Production Sale. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. in Cottonwood Falls and he and Doris were active in the Prairie Schooners Mariners. He was very active in the church choir. He sang the tenor solo in the choir anthem "Open the Gates" for many Palm Sunday services. Four of the men of the church started a men’s quartet and sang for many events and services. He, also, sang for many funerals. During the 10 years of service to the Chase County USD#284, he served on the Board of Education, was the official statistician for the high school basketball games and starter at track meets. He served as secretary-treasurer on the Bazaar Watershed Board for years and the Chase County Fair Board for 46 years. He was president of the Flint Hill Rodeo Association for 14 years. He and Doris were 4-H leaders for more than 30 years. He was in 4-H as a youth in Chase County and was awarded the State 4-H Alumni Award in 1959. He was on the Chase County Extension Council. He showed Hereford steer champions at the Kansas State Fair and the Kansas National Livestock Show at Wichita. He won a Santa Fe Railroad trip award to attend the National 4-H Congress in Chicago. He was a member of Future Farmers of America and was awarded the Honorary FFA Chapter Member Award. Elmore has judged countless county fairs and horse shows and was invited back to his alma mater to judge KSU’s Little American Royal. He has taken reasons at the American Royal in K.C. for the intercollegiate judging contests. Many a 4-Her can say they got their start in livestock judging from Elmore. Elmore has served on the Board of Directors for the Kansas Junior Livestock Show and was president for two years. He was awarded "Outstanding Stockman" in 1989 by the K-State Block & Bridle Club and one of the 1994 "Stockman Honorees" at the 81st Annual Cattlemen’s Day at KSU. He was a life-long member of the American Quarter Horse Association, the American Hereford Association, the Kansas Hereford Association, and the Kansas Livestock Association . He is survived by his daughter, Marcia Bailey of Hamilton, KS., six grandchildren: Buck Bailey, Wes Bailey, Jodie Brethour, Jamie Felton, Justin Stout, and Jessie Romfo; and 10 great grandchildren: Alexa Bailey, Madison Bailey, Rylee Bailey, Jack Felton, Sam Felton, Joe Brethour, Luke Brethour, Charlie Brethour, Carter Romfo, and Cayden Romfo..
