EDGAR "ED" O. GRIFFIN
Cottonwood Falls Dateline Edgar "Ed" Griffin, age 83, died Friday, January 22, 2010, at the Golden Living Center of Chase County in Cottonwood Falls, KS. A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at 2:00 P.M., at the United Methodist Church in Cottonwood Falls with Pastor Young-Gil Bahng officiating. Military honors will be presented by a Fort Riley Honor Guard. There will be a private family interment at Bazaar Cemetery following the service. The son of Elmer Diller and Viola Mae Danby Griffin, Edgar Otis Griffin was born December 30, 1926, in Cassoday, KS. He served in the United States Army. He and Doris Marlene Goering were married November 26, 1945, in Cassoday. She survives. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cottonwood Falls. He was a member of the Cedar Point School Board of Education, Soil Conservation, Farm Service Agency, and the Antique Cars Association. He served two terms as a Chase County Commissioner. He was a rancher/farmer in the Wonsevu area and raised livestock and crops. After moving to the Cottonwood Falls area, he was a Purina Feed dealer. He was an antique car enthusiast. He and Doris spent many hours on the road going to car shows, spending leisure time on the roads of the Flint Hills, and in parades. He is survived by his wife of the home; three sons: Steven A. Griffin and his wife, Sharon of Cottonwood Falls, Stuart M. Griffin and his wife, Cheryl of Overland Park, KS., and Richard T. Griffin and his wife, Nancy of Cedar Point, KS.; one daughter: Nancy M. Burton and her husband, Dale of Wamego, KS.; four sisters: Elsie Brady of Salt Lake City, UT., Xrephia Flavin of Newton, KS., Virginia Callaway of McAllen, TX., and Effie Wakefield of Douglas, KS; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Arnold Griffin, John Griffin, Louie Griffin, and Elmer Griffin, Jr., a sister: Tiny Baggett, and two infant siblings. The family will meet friends Monday, from 6:30 until 7:30 P.M., at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home. Friends may call Monday, from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M., at the funeral home and Tuesday, from 10:00 A.M. until service time. The casket will be closed at the church.
