Donald Lee Stahl of Cottonwood Falls, Ks, age 84, passed away January 14, 2023 at Morris County Hospital. He was born in Newton to August and Marie (Whitford) Stahl on October 9, 1938.
He attended Roosevelt School in Newton and was 9 years old when his family moved to a farm in the Homestead Community west of Matfield Green in Chase County. He graduated from Matfield Green Rural High School in 1956. Following high school, he worked in farming and also drove a bus for Matfield Green for a time. Later on, he was employed by Heckendorn Manufacturing in Cedar Point. In his later years he was a caretaker for the Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cottonwood Falls. He married Mary Ellen Talkington on April 8, 1972, and made their home in Cottonwood Falls.
While growing up, he loved to hunt and fish with his dad and his brother, Dennis. In recent years, he enjoyed coin collecting and watching sports on TV, especially the K.C. Chiefs and basketball during March Madness.
Survivors include: Susan Dryden of Ponca City, OK, Shirley and Dennis Collins of Strong City, Nancy and Doyle Brewer of Edmund, OK, Keith Talkington of Matfield Green, Mike Wagner of El Dorado; 19 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; sister, Esther and Larry Teer of Newton; brother, Dennis and Teresa Stahl of Hesston; nieces and nephews, John Teer of Zephyrhills, FL, Jeff and Michele Teer of Wichita, Justin and Melanie Stahl of Stark City, MO, Raynel and Brent Dobson of McPherson; 5 great nephews; 3 great nieces; 3 great great-nephews and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse, Mary; an infant brother, Gerald; and step-daughter, Judy Wagner.
Per Donald’s wishes, cremation will take place. His celebration of life gathering will be from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls, with family present.
