DONALD "DON" RICHARD DICK Don Dick, age 80, died suddenly Sunday, October 17, 2010, in Strong City, KS. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, October 21, 2010, at 2:00 pm, at the Flint Hills Community Church in Cottonwood Falls with Pastor Jim Bartsch officiating. Burial, with military honors presented by a Fort Riley Honor Detail, will follow in Prairie Grove Cemetery west of Cottonwood Falls. The son of Orville and Opal Link Dick, Donald was born September 17, 1930, in Bazaar, KS. He graduated from Chase County Community High School in May, 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars and the United Nations Service Medal with two overseas bars. He farmed and raised cattle and worked in construction. He worked for Childs Construction and was self employed. He is survived by three daughters: Teresa Houchin of Olathe, KS., Gayla Armagost of Cottonwood Falls, KS., and Lisa Morris of Emporia, two sisters: Pat Dick and Shirley Steadman of Cottonwood Falls, KS.; nine grandchildren: Tyler Wassom, Misty Ward, Branden Wassom, Matt Harlan, April Rogers, Ashia Passmore, Dustin Maddox, Cory Moreland, and Paige Houchin; and ten great grandchildren: Trint Rogers, Kinzie Rogers, Lahna Passmore, Daxton Maddox, Dana Maddox, Gabriel Wassom, Tagan Ward, Talan Ward, Wesley Nichols, Austin Nichols, and Piper Harlan. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob Dick. The family will meet friends Wednesday, 6:00 until 7:30 pm, at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. Friends may call Wednesday from 9:00 am until 8:00pm at the funeral home and Thursday from 10:00 until service time at the church.
