DON ALVIN AYERS Cottonwood Falls Dateline Don A. Ayers, 71, of Cottonwood Falls, died Sunday, July 6, 2008, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia, Kansas. A celebration of life memorial service will be held Thursday, July 10, 2008, at 2:00 P.M., at the Bazaar Schoolhouse Community Building in Bazaar with The Rev. Melody Kimbrel, of the Bazaar United Methodist Church, officiating. He has been cremated and his ashes will be scattered at a later date. The son of Alvin Reuben and Nellie Grace Mitchell Ayers, Don Alvin was born January 20, 1937, in Chase County, Kansas. He was married to Rita Webb and they divorced. He and Jene Brogan Parker were married June 8, 1977, in Emporia. Don worked for Bluestem Co-Op for 17 years. He was a herdsman for Weise Cattle Co. and other companies and he retired from Didde Web Press in 1993 after working as an assembler for 16 1/2 years. He was a member of the Bazaar United Methodist Church, served on the Board of Trustees, and served on the Parish Council until it disbanded. He made blue ribbon noodles to serve at church dinners and sell at the Annual Bazaar Bazaar. Don helped the Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Women serve meals during the Chase County Fair. He was a volunteer for the Flint Hills Rodeo Association. He served on the Nominating Committee of R.E.A. Don raised sheep and many were purchased by the 4-H kids for their Annual Fair Project. He would spend Tuesday mornings at the fair watching the kids show their sheep and hogs and supporting them. He would enter his produce in the fair each year. He loved to work with children and he and his wife were Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus for three years during Chase County Country Christmas Celebration. He loved to hunt, fish, and trap. He was, also, an organ donor. He is survived by his wife, Jene, of the home; two sons: Alvin Wade Ayers and his wife, Bonnie, of Burlington, KS. and Randall Duane Parker and his wife, Sue, of Wichita, KS.; three daughters: Donna Lynn Ayers and Kim Mitchell of Wichita, KS., Vicki Leigh Housholder of Emporia, KS., and Deborah Denise Callahan and her husband, Roger, of Olathe, KS.; one brother: James Lloyd Adkins of Cottonwood Falls, KS.; one sister, Carol Cahoone of Strong City, KS.; 17 grandchildren: Megathan Elizabeth Ayers, Jaymee Nicole Ayers, Joshua Buser, Jessica Buser, Alexandria Parker, Christopher Kremer, Nevaeh McLachlan, Rachelle Ann Housholder, Kandy Jo Housholder, Jesse Robert Housholder, Amy Leigh Housholder, Janelle Bettie Jene Housholder, Haley Rae Housholder, Dawn Michelle Wahl, Benjamin Michael Callahan, Ryan Anthony Callahan, and Daniel James Callahan; and two great grandchildren: Trista Nicole and Kayleigh Jane. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William J. Adkins. Messages to the family may be sent at www.brown-bennett-alexander.com.
