Caroline J. Alcorn, 83, died September 27, 2024, at her home in Bazaar. She was born May 30, 1941, in Los Angeles, CA, to Carl and Beatriz “Betty” (Navarrette) Steele. In her teen years she went into a foster home was raised by Mom and Dad Swartz. Caroline was a devoted homemaker, caring for her children and grandchildren. Caroline was a talented seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for her friends and family. She also enjoyed quilting and made baby blankets for Chase County Sheriff’s Office to carry in their vehicles in case there was an accident to provide some security to the children. Caroline made porcelain and ceramic dolls and all of their clothing. She was also a gifted China painter on her dolls.
On May 23, 1975, she married Rufus D. Alcorn in Miami, OK. They shared 39 years of marriage before he died December 11, 2014.
Caroline is survived by: children, Suszanne Miller of Wichita, Jeff Alcorn and partner Shelly of Andover, Gerre Heathman and husband Tom of Bazaar, Robert Newton of Ault, CO, Nicole Cook and husband Richard of Abilene, TX; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sister, Joan Kilmer; and good friend and caregiver, Connie Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; foster parents, Mom and Dad Swartz; and brothers, Donald Steele and Wayne Steele.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2024, at Bazaar Schoolhouse, Bazaar. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls.
