Obituary

Betty D. Hanlon, 99, died February 20, 2023, at Newman Regional Medical, Emporia. She was born July 4, 1923, in Independence, to Thomas H. and Helen D. (Haverstick) Chrisope. Betty graduated in 1941 from Independence High School. She worked as the senior buyer for the Army ammunition plant in Parsons before retiring. Betty enjoyed fishing and camping with her husband.

On March 3, 1946, she married George W. “Bill” Hanlon. They shared 56 years of marriage before he died on June 17, 2002.

Betty is survived by: children, Joe Hanlon and wife Maria of Blue Springs, MO, Linda Martin and husband Gary of Strong City; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 1 great great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Tom Hanlon.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2023, at Hillside Cemetery, Toledo Township, with Reverend Marilyn Christmore officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to, Austie Strong Foundation, in care of Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home PO Box 220 Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
