Barbara J. Wells

Barbara J. Wells was born December 21, 1930 in Hillsboro and went to Heaven to be with her husband Harold Kip Wells Tuesday, February 4, 2020.  Barbara graduated from Elmdale High School in 1948. On August 5, 1948, she married Harold Kip Wells. After Kip graduated from Washburn Law School, they moved to Kansas City. Barbara was a stay at home mother who devoted herself to her family, her church, and many volunteer organizations.

After Kip retired from his law practice in Overland Park, Barbara and Kip spent 3 years in Alaska and returned home to Chase County in 1977. Barbara was an involved member of Elmdale United Methodist Church, President of Kansas Federation of Republican Woman from 2000-2001, member of Daughters’ of the Mayflower, Daughters of the American Revolution, Alpha Study Club and bridge club.

Barbara was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was always ready to go, whether for a walk, a ballgame or to help someone.

Barbara is survived by: son, Harold Kip Wells II and wife Sherry; daughter, Janna Gail Hancock; grandchildren, Macey Wells, Bradley Wells, Laura Anderson, Melanie Brown, Patricia Falwell, Cory Falwell;10 great grandchildren; and sister, Joy Lynn Kurtz of Vero Beach, FL. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, H.L. and Helen Chapman; brothers, Howard L. Chapman Jr., Richard Carroll Chapman and beloved husband, Harold Kip Wells.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at Elmdale United Methodist Church, with Reverend Tim Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Elmdale Stoehr G.A.R. Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls.
