Anna Marie was born on December 31, 1929 to Floyd Merle and Nellie (Brooks) (Brown) Starks. She passed away on February 28, 2025 in Pretty Prairie, Kansas. She grew up in Elmdale, Kansas and attended Elmdale Schools. She was a member of the former Elmdale Christian Church where she was a Sunday School superintendent, Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She served as deaconess and elder.
She married Walter E. Green on February 13, 1951 at Strong City Lutheran Church and lived in Elmdale until 1965 when they moved to YMCA Camp Wood. After the flood in 1998, they moved to Cottonwood Falls. She worked at Narromor’s Store, and Bummies Store and cleaned the Elmdale Bank. She cooked at the YMCA Camp Wood for 11 years and Chase County High School for 20 years. She was the Elmdale City Treasurer for 15 years. She volunteered at the Community Clothes Closet in Cottonwood Falls through the Presbyterian Church where she attended.
She is survived by her children: Anita Kroeker, Hutchinson; Nancy (Dale) Kirkham, Eureka; Walter Merl (Barbie) Green, Cottonwood Falls; and Deanna Wessel, Cottonwood Falls. Grandchildren: Randee Jones, Tracy (Nathan) Anderes, Alaina (Travas) Brenner, Edde Dill, Angel (Chad) Winward, Jayce Wessel, Jessica Meyer, Danielle (Bart) Green, Benjamin Walter (Tasha) Green. Greatgrandchildren: Lathe, Raylynn, Tayden, Tannan, Aniaya, Wyatt, Jameson, Ava, Bodhi Walter, Mila, Zadie, Juniper. Numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Walter; brothers; Dorman (Martha) Brown, Burley (Margarete and Mae) Starks, Edgar (Hazel) Starks, Harvey (Donna) Starks, Garland (Dorthy) Starks, Howard Lee (twin brother) (Joan), Darrel (Charlotte) Starks; sisters: Letha (Glen) Schleffer, Luceil (Harry) Slifer, Lavergn (Earl) Bastin. Sister- in-law Marjorie (Charles) Finney and brother-in-law, Howard (Helen) Green and son-in-law Jerry Kroeker.
Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Elmdale Stoehr G.A.R. Cemetery, Elmdale. Family and friends can gather at the Christian Church at the cemetery following the service. Casual dress requested. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, family will not be present.
