Alice M. Childs

Alice M. Childs, 92, died February 23, 2022, at Chase County Care and Rehabilitation. She was born February 26, 1929, in Burns, to Fred and Alta (Sidner) Payton. Alice graduated from Strong City High School. She was a farmer, housewife, maintenance worker, and painter.

Alice married Edwin Childs on August 7, 1946. They shared 56 years of marriage before he died on April 20, 2003.

She is survived by: sons, Larry Childs and wife Kathy of Oklahoma City, OK, Gary Childs of Cottonwood Falls; grandchildren, Nicholas Childs, Melissa Ward and husband Seth; six great grandchildren; and brother, Wayne Payton of Abilene.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Iota Smith, Percy Payton, Ruth Knab, Pauline Pinkston, Betty Bill Swift; and sister-in-law, Helen Payton.

Cremation will take place.

Memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Elmdale Stoehr G.A.R. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Honor Flight, in care of Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, PO Box 220 Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
