Wayne L. Krase Wayne Krase of Newton, KS passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018 after a four year battle against melanoma cancer. He was 87 years old. Wayne Lewis Krase was born on August 10, 1931 to Louis J. and Erna (Frank) Krase in East Chicago, Illinois. Wayne was an only child and his mother died when he was 10 years old. His father then moved them to Chicago, IL. Wayne was later placed in the Children’s Receiving Home in Maywood, IL which was underwritten by the Ladies Society of the Lutheran Church. Wayne met his future wife, Roberta Jean Jacques their junior year at Proviso High School in Maywood. Upon graduation from Proviso High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June of 1951. He and Jean were married on November 2, 1951 in Jacksonville, FL where Wayne was trained in aviation electrician studies. Wayne served during the Korean War and witnessed the hydrogen bomb tests. Three children were born to this union. The family moved to Emporia where Wayne worked at Fred’s Derby, his in-laws truck stop and restaurant. While working and raising a family, Wayne attended Kansas State Teachers College where he earned his degree in education. The family moved to Cassoday, KS where he began his teaching career. He continued his education and was hired as principal at the Cottonwood Falls Grade School. He served as Assistant Superintendent at Valley Center, KS before becoming Superintendent of schools at Sedgwick, KS from which he retired. Wayne and Jean moved to Council Grove, KS upon retirement and resided there until the fall of 2016 when they moved to Newton. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Jean of the home; son, Bruce (Denise) Krase of Newton, KS; daughters, Sandra (Vernon) Goerl of Hutchinson, KS and Sharon (Jerry) Pittman of Cottonwood Falls, KS. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. A private family inurnment with Navy military honors will be held at Prairie Grove Cemetery west of Cottonwood Falls. A celebration of life service will be held at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Council Grove, KS on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. The family will greet friends at the church following the service and will be encouraged to share memories of Wayne.
