Robert Carter Obituary

ROBERT J. "BOB" CARTER Toledo Township Robert "Bob" Carter, 76, lifelong farmer, died Friday, July 6, 2007, at his home in Toledo Township, Kansas. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at 2:00 P.M., at the Hillside Cemetery in Toledo Township, with The Rev. Bob Barb, of the United Methodist Churches of Hartford and Neosho Rapids, officiating. Robert was born to Ronald J. and Jessie Applegate Carter on March 29, 1931, at the family home south of Tampa, Kansas. He moved, with his family, to their farm home near Saffordville, Kansas, in 1943. He graduated from Toledo Township High School with the class of 1949. On June 15, 1952, he and Joanne Sansom were united in marriage in Emporia, Kansas. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad and, later, served in the United States Army during the Korean War. In addition to farming, he was employed at the Bunge Soybean Mill for a number of years, retiring as a Supervisor in 1996. He continued to farm until his death. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joanne, of the home; a daughter, Lorraine Klumpe, and her husband, Phillip of Olpe, KS.; a grandson, Bryce Klumpe of Emporia, KS.; and a sister, Joan Martin of Wellington, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David Carter on September 11, 2001. The family will meet friends Monday, from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls, KS.
