Patricia Ann “Pat” Curry
Pat Curry, 77, of Emporia, KS, died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Presbyterian Manor in Emporia. The daughter of Fred L. and Margaret V. (Roper) Bernard, Pat was born March 6, 1941 in Lawrence. She graduated at the age of 16 from Dunlap High School and completed her nurses training at Newman Memorial County Hospital School of Nursing in 1963.She was married to Dale Curry and to that union was born three daughters: Tracy, Laura, and Jayne. They later divorced.
Pat’s nursing career spanned 50 years of providing professional care. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital for ten years, at Newman Hospital for 32 years, and at the Emporia Surgery Center for five years.
Pat was a member of Saffordville United Methodist Church and a previous member of Dunlap United Methodist and Madison United Methodist Church. She was a 50-year member of the PEO Chapter in Emporia and the OES in LeRoy. She was a member of KSNA and a KSNA Advisor to the Emporia Ostomy Club, and Singles in Agriculture. Pat was a 4-H member and leader for foods and sheep. She supported the Chase County 4-H programs. She enjoyed and spent time reading, crocheting, dancing, playing cards, and traveling in the U.S.
Pat is survived by her three daughters: Tracy L (Mike) Gilbreath of Emporia, Laura A. (Jon) Breshears of Neosho Rapids, and Jayne R. (Mike) Millis of Altamont; seven grandchildren: Bailey Gilbreath, Kaitlyn (Jake) Siroky, Kaid Millis, Bronte` Bailey, Rayanna Breshears, Lane Gilbreath, and Kiernan Breshears; and one great-granddaughter, Jaysa Siroky. She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant sisters: Mary Ann and Natalia Jane.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19 at 2:00 at the Saffordville United Methodist Church in Toledo Township. Pat has been cremated. Inurnment of her cremains will be in Dunlap Cemetery at a later date.
