James F. “Jim” Barr, 95, died May 28, 2019, at Morris County Hospital, Council Grove. He was born July 30, 1923, in Emporia, to Carl O. and Margaret (Drummond) Barr. Jim graduated from Elmdale High School, received 40 hours of Real Estate education at Emporia State University, and attended Reisch Auction School in Mason City, IA in 1947.
Jim was a member of Elmdale United Methodist Church, 30 year member at the Masonic Lodge in Cottonwood Falls, life member of PRCA, NRA and licensed real estate broker for 40 years.
In addition to being a real estate broker, Jim farmed and ran cattle for 40 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spur making, and announcing the Flint Hills Rodeo 7 times.
“The best thing that ever happened to me was when I asked Darlene to marry me and she said yes!” Jim married Darlene Likes on August 17, 1952. They shared almost 67 years of marriage.
Jim is survived by: wife, Darlene, of the home; sons, J.C. Barr and wife Judy of Yukon, OK, Frank Barr and wife Carrie of Buhler; daughter, Anne Shaver and husband Jesse of Emporia; grandchildren, Mollie (Anthony) Barr Gatto, Kacey (Paul) Bowen, Colin Barr, Heather (Ryan) Munsey, Bryce (Jessica) Shaver; great-grandchildren, Harper Munsey, Lakin Munsey, Everly Shaver; and brother, Gene Barr and wife Nita of Burdick.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Flint Hills Community Church, with Reverend Brenda Harter officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elmdale United Methodist Church, in care of Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, PO Box 220, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
