Cottonwood Falls Dateline Jess H. Simpson, 87, died Monday, September 3, 2007, at Sterling House of Emporia in Emporia, KS. There will be no formal service. Cremation has taken place. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Jess Howard Simpson, the son of William A. and Anna Kiser Simpson, was born March 17, 1920, at Humboldt, Kansas. He graduated from Yates Center High School and attended Pittsburg State College before returning home to work. He and Phyllis N. Barbour were married on February 5, 1942, in Greensburg, Kansas. She died December 24, 2006. He was an over-the-road trucker until 2000 when he retired. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Chanute. He is survived by three sons: Howard L. Simpson of Kansas City, MO., Donald W. Simpson of Strong City, KS., and Steven L. Simpson of Strong City, KS.; two daughters: Elizabeth Ellen Welch of Buffalo, KS. and Barbara Ann Sigler of Burdick, KS.; 13 grandchldren, 32 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two sisters: Betty Bunner and Ellen Simpson and one brother: Edwin Simpson. There is no designated memorial.
