Ellen Frances (Storey) Kuertzel
Ellen Kuertzel, 95, of Emporia, KS, formerly of Cottonwood Falls, died Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Holiday Resort in Emporia. The daughter of William H. and Millie M. (French) Storey, Ellen was born April 7, 1923 in Madison. She graduated from Hartford High School in 1941. She and Arlie Kuertzel were married May 24, 1941 in Cottonwood Falls. He preceded her in death October 25, 1998.
Ellen was a member of Saffordville United Methodist Church. She was a ranch wife and was employed as a certified nurse’s aide and a certified medication aide. She served as Cottonwood Falls City Clerk for several years. Ellen was a member of a Home Demonstration Unit and was a 4-H foods leader.
She is survived by two sisters: Edith Musch of Wichita and Rosalie Brenton of Eureka; four grandchildren: Gary Kuertzel, Kelly Wynn, Bill (Dianna) Veatch, and Kandy (Troy) Dall; six great-grandchildren: Cheyenne Veatch, Kevin Veatch, Taylor Dearing, Chevy Dearing, Stephanie (Aaron) Hammond, and Brian Dall; and two great great-grandchildren: Lane Dall and Zoey Lynn Hammond. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband. Arlie; son, Roy Kuertzel; daughter, Beulah Veatch; two brothers: William and Owen Storey; and four sisters: Louise Christy, Laverne Miller, Margaret Boan, and Beulah Stine.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held Friday, January 18 at 4:40 pm at the Saffordville United Methodist Church in Toledo Township. She has been cremated and her cremains will be inurned in Fairview Cemetery near Madison at a later date. Memorial contributions to SOS, Inc. may be sent in care of Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls.
