Harold E. Steadman, 88, died February 7, 2024, at Presbyterian Manor in Emporia, KS. He was born September 10, 1935, in Clements, KS to Dewey A. and Elda M. (Martin) Steadman. Harold graduated from Strong City High School. He retired from Reno - Apac Construction after driving weekly to KC for 32 years working as Heavy Equipment Mechanic and was proud to be part of Operating Engineers 101 Union. In 1969, he started a local dirt/gravel excavation business with wife Shirley and co-owned company with their eldest son Mike.
Harold married Shirley Sue Dick on March 21, 1958, at the Methodist Church, Cottonwood Falls. They shared almost 65 years of marriage.
He is survived by: wife, Shirley of Cottonwood Falls; daughter, Patricia Steadman (Denise) of Lake Lotawana, MO; son, Ken Steadman (Mary); grandchildren, Rachel, Michael and Hannah of El Dorado, Misty of Emporia, Jennifer of Sedalia, MO, Brandon of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL); and sister, Bernice Odle of rural Cedar Point, KS.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elaine Steadman, Beverly Turnbull; and sons, Timothy and Mikel.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2024, at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, with Pastor Tim Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Grove Cemetery.
