Garry Mott Obituary

Garry was born January 27, 1941, at the Stubenhofer Home in Strong City, KS, and passed away unexpectedly at home on December 30, 2023.

He attended Cottonwood Falls School, graduating high school in 1959. He played football and basketball, even claiming the nickname “crazy legs Mott.” He then attended College of Emporia on a football scholarship where he played in the Mineral Water Bowl, in which he bragged about winning decades after.

He was drafted into the army in August of 1963 and discharged in 1965 from Fort Carson, Colorado.

He worked construction jobs prior to becoming a substitute rural carrier, which turned into a full-time position, retiring in 2003 after 36 years, as well as finding time to be full-time farmer and rancher.

On January 2, 1965, he was united in marriage with Mary Ann Miller at the United Methodist Church in Kit Carson, Colorado. They shared 59 years of marriage.

Garry is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Mott; sister, Anita (Carl) Morrison; daughter, Brenda Ann Rucker; son-in-law, Nute Rucker; 3 granddaughters, Braidyn (Nathan) Unruh, Brityne Rucker and Breckyn Rucker; and 1 great grandchild, Brogann Unruh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Glenn Mott and Eva Augusta (Burton) Mott; and sisters, Virginia Steadman and Sondra Lawless.
