Cleta Mae (Carpenter) Scott, 92, peacefully went to meet her Lord and Savior on March 30, 2024, at her home in Strong City. She was born June 26, 1931, in Cedar Point, to Gustave and Ida (Piper) Carpenter. Cleta graduated from Cedar Point High School in 1949.
On October 24, 1949, she married Vernon L. Scott in Florence. They shared 32 years of marriage before he passed away on December 1, 1981.
Most of her life she was a homemaker and caregiver. She and Vernon purchased and operated the Bluestem Elevator in Cottonwood Falls. She continued to run the business for 3 years after his death. She also worked as a bookkeeper and drove a school bus for 9 years.
She was a member of Cedar Point United Methodist Church and Faith Methodist Church in Cottonwood Falls. Cleta enjoyed singing in the choir and sewing.
Cleta is survived by: children, Terry Scott of Cottonwood Falls, Nancy Ast and husband Bob of Emporia; grandchildren, Quinton Scott of Columbia, MO, Nicole Williams of Dewey, OK; great grandchildren, Jolie Scott and Conner Scott.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 8 siblings, Morris Gene Carpenter, Juanita Pierce, Yvonne Allen, Anna Starns, Gus Carpenter Jr., Janet Remschner, Gerald Carpenter, and Richard “Dick” Carpenter.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Faith Methodist Church, Cottonwood Falls. Family will greet friends after the service. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2024, at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls. Private family inurnment will take place in Bazaar Cemetery.
